The way I see it, the key to creating the good life for ourselves is to integrate the best of the modern world with what is natural to us as human beings, and combine that with our personal values, interests and needs. I get inspiration from what could be considered to be the natural or original lifestyle for humans, because I think that we will feel better the more our lifestyle resemble the lifestyle that we as humans have been adapted to through evolution.
What does it mean to be a coach?
In my work with clients I use coaching and cognitive psychology with practical exercises. As a coach, I help people manage and realize their dreams and goals. We all have dreams, large or small, and they are all equally precious because it’s the dreams that give that golden lining to life. My job is not to fulfil your dreams for you, only you can do that, but I can help you clarify what your dreams are and assist you in finding your strategies for making them come true.
I’ll coach you to discover who you really are and how you can live your life to achieve increased well-being. I’ll guide you through your personal development and in the process of creating the good life for yourself. If you need me to, I’ll help you focus on the changes you want to make and I’ll give you support if you run into problems along the way. However, I can’t change your life for you. You’ll have to do the real work.
I’m the one standing behind you, cheering you on as you make your dream come true. I’m the one that push you forward when you get stuck and who help you to get back up when you fall. I’ll help you find the tools you need to tear down the walls or to build a ladder to climb over them. I’ll coach you, so you can find your unique way and live a more full and joyful life.
It started with me wanting to find a lifestyle that would increase my own well-being and quality of life. I was suffering from depression, I was unemployed, broke, lonely and bored. Life seemed rather meaningless and I felt stuck in a hopeless situation I couldn’t really change.
Having a reasonable knowledge about the human body and human evolution, as well as how people function in groups and societies, my point of departure was that my well-being would increase if my lifestyle was more similar to the lifestyle that is natural to humans. I already had some knowledge of what that lifestyle would be like, and I set out to research it more thoroughly. I delved deeper into physiology, psychology, sociology and cognitive science.
At the same time as I was myself struggling with depression, I noticed that many others had experiences similar to mine and that a lot of people had a need for, or were longing for, something different. A lot of people I met felt limited by circumstances they thought they were unable to influence and change. They felt that they were unable to live the lives they wanted to live, in the way they wished. This created stress, frustration, sorrow and pain. There was also the experience of structures in our society and culture holding them back and decreasing their quality of life rather than promoting well-being.
I trained as a health coach in order to learn how to translate my theoretical knowledge into practical work with clients, so that I would be able to share my knowledge and help others. A few years later, I decided to train as a nurse and got a degree. I’m doing this because I want to help my clients find each their own way of living the life they want to live. I want to help people realize that they may not be as limited by circumstances beyond their control as they might think, and that they have more freedom than they might think. I also want to show that you don’t have to live life according to the current norms of our society. It’s possible to live differently, in a way that’s more healthy, more life affirming and that promtes quality of life and well-being.
I’m doing this to show that we can take the freedom we long for and in doing so, creating positive change in society. When we insisit on living in a more life affirming way, we become an inspiration to others. As more and more individuals start changing their lives, society as a whole will eventually follow. The culture will change in accordance with the values and lifestyles of the population, because it is the sum of the individuals it consists of.
